Submission Description

This research aims to understand how religious interpretations in Indonesia influence the understanding and implementation of gender equality and sexual inclusivity principles. By analyzing religious texts, this study seeks to reveal how the understanding of religious teachings can support or hinder the achievement of gender equality. Through literature review, in-depth interviews with religious leaders, gender activists, the community, and discursive analysis of religious texts and media, this research identifies religious practices relevant to gender and sexuality issues, traces the roles of religious figures, religious institutions, and society in shaping understandings of gender and sexuality. The expected outcomes of this research are a comprehensive map of how religion is interpreted in the context of gender and sexuality in Indonesia, identifying best practices and challenges in promoting gender equality and sexual inclusivity within religious contexts that support the realization of inclusive freedom, taking into account the diversity of religions and cultures in Indonesia.
